4th Edition March 2002 PRIME TIME PRODUCTION'S NEWSLETTER Your Voice of Choice for 50+ Maturing Adults ******************** Featuring "Sizzlin' Seniors" Television Programming ******************** Prime Time Production's Website Up and Running OUR SPOTLIGHT IS ON YOU, ThePIE, INC. ********************* Many thanks to the hard work of two great friends of mine and all seniors everywhere. Because of Steve Stovall and Alan Smith of ThePIE, Inc. we now have a wonderful cross media website for "Sizzlin' Seniors" television programming. After several months working part-time for us, we now have on the Internet this website: www.sizzlinsen.org. On this site we will have
We hope you will look us up frequently to stay abreast of what we are doing in the Dallas/Ft Worth, Texas metroplex and get the latest yokel local on aging and wellness programs. Thanks Steve and Allan, you are the best. ********************** Senior Products on Line ************************** I have been searching for products that I feel would benefit our lives as we age and keep us well since we are living longer. On our website I will not recommend anything that I have not tried myself. I met with HTEUSA in January and also Ameriplan and thought these would be two good choices to share with you. In February, I met with Lexxus International and began to use their products too. I felt these were products that women would especially like to use, although some men may find a "facelift" refreshing too. And of course, we all know Herbalife has been around for a long, long time. My youngest sister uses their products too, and can she ever give a testimony. She weighed in over a year ago at over 150 and now weighs in at 136. She is plumb delighted with their products because she is still working as a tennis coach, still competing at a Jr. College in Arizona and wants to always look her best even though she is aging too. She is gorgeous and even more so now that she is using our wellness products. These companies will be donating funds to senior television when you purchase them here on our website. We thank you in advance for clicking on and ordering on our "Products" page and helping us with our fundraising while you are cruising through our website. And of course there is our "Making Memories Live" product which we will talk more about in this newsletter.
*************************** My Community Activities for the 1st Quarter ***************************
I have been very busy in the senior community the first quarter of 2002. Aside from creating and producing my monthly shows, I finished participating in the Cooper Institute's Research six-month program on the impact of exercise for Women 45- 75. It was challenging, but put me back on track to taking better care of my body with more exercise as I age. I spoke at the AARP Chapter Leadership Orientation for Public Relations in January. I assisted with the Ms Senior Plano Rehearsal tea along with the Winner's Circle and then was producer and Mcee of the Ms Senior Plano Pageant in March at the Plano Senior Center. I met in Dallas with AARP's new Communication's Specialist for Fort Worth, and Director of Communication's from Austin, Carol Barasch. I attended Richland College's Emeritus Advisory Board meeting in February. I presented The Maurice Barnett Center a donation check from the proceeds collected at the Ms Senior Plano Pageant, which appeared in the local newspaper. I also was asked to judge the Ms North Texas Teen USA Pageant in February, which was a fun event to do. I attended a news conference for AARP in Oak Cliff, a suburb of Dallas, and filmed it for a show in March, in regard to predatory lending. I attended Emeritus Marketing Planning Committee meeting in March. I attended a Council meeting in Dallas for the S.A.L.T. program and I taught a bible study class at the Cottonwood Assistant Living Center for seniors in Plano, Texas. ************************** Advertising Prospects Still on Hold *************************** It was reported in Advertising Age in March 2002 that the economy has gotten a shot in the arm. But still, the second half recovery scenario indicates that the advertising market has hit bottom. But most advertising forecasts still call for one to two quarters of anemic spending. This is not to say business is booming, but it is getting better. With a little luck and much hope, we will begin to address advertising again in the 2nd quarter as the economy rebounds to try and find corporate advertisers that would want to support senior media. Meanwhile, we will continue to submit grants even though they too have been sending us rejects. I am still talking with corporations to assist us. When the time is right, the money will come to support senior media projects such as ours. However, we do take donations. Click on our "Contribution Page" and give something to help us. All funds are audited by Joseph Brophey, CPA in Dallas, Texas.
*************************** Prime Time Productions Honored with Leadership Award ***************************
You must know that sometimes it is hard to stay encouraged in the media business. But sometimes we are given a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel. On April 1, 2002 such a light appeared once again to remind me why I am striving to maintain the passion in my heart and to keep on keeping' on for seniors television programming. "The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare" in Washington, D.C. has informed me that Prime Time Productions, Inc. has been selected to be the winner of the "Creative Arts and Successful Aging Leadership Award" and they are flying me to Washington, D. C. on May 30th, 2002 to receive the award at a banquet at the Windham Hotel. Dr. Linda Carmicle, Ph.D., of Plano, Texas, submitted our nomination. This award is given for innovative and effective programs for seniors to bring national recognition to extraordinary local efforts that can serve as models for other communities. Needless to say, we are proud to have this recognition for 5 years of hard work. Congratulations goes to all our dedicated reporters, Lilia McCurtain, Alex Burton, Bill Quinn, Dr Joseph Godat, Michael Durkin; and Time Warner studio staff, Rob Davis, Jenni Ladd and Bob Stevenson. Without them and all the community organizations and volunteers that bring their expertise to our programming, we could never have gained this recognition. Thank you and God bless each of you for the generous time you give to "Sizzlin' Seniors" television programming. *************************** Politics and Pills *************************** March was a critical time in Congress for shaping the next fiscal year's budget as reported by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. " The first step was setting aside money for a Medicare prescription drug benefit and getting it included in the budget resolution. (This is a broad blueprint for federal spending that outlines broad categories of spending.) New programs or significant changes in federal fiscal policy needed to be reflected in the budget resolution. Some people in Washington have not made this a high priority. We have asked Congress to create a benefit comparable to the insurance that most of them have, a plan that picks up 80 percent of the cost of prescription drugs with minimal out of pocket costs. Experts estimated that such a plan would cost at least $800 billion over ten years. The events of 911 showed us that Congress and the President could act quickly when something is important enough. American seniors and their families can wait no longer." Now we will have to wait and watch… wait and see what they do in the Spring. Prescription drugs aren't a luxury, but sometimes they cost as much. However, the Health Care Financing Administration has unveiled a new feature if you use the Internet that will help you and I get information on programs providing prescription drugs to individuals in need from pharmaceutical companies, states and community-based programs and disease-specific programs. Look for "Prescription Drug Assistance Program Compare" when you go to website: www.medicare.gov. *************************** Community Advisory Boards *************************** I am in my last year to serve on the Senior Advisory Board for the City of Plano, Texas. I have served 4 years. I have been ask to serve on the Emeritus Program Advisory Board for Richland College in Richardson, Texas and also the Cooper Clinic Institute Community Advisory Board in Dallas, Texas. I have recently been ask to serve on the Community Council for the S.A.L.T. program in Dallas, Texas and will also serve on their Conference Committee for the year 2002. I am participating in the Mayfair Event in Dallas, Texas for seniors in May 2002 on their Publicity Committee for the second year. *************************** You Are Gonna Love Our New "Making Memories Live" Albums Fundraiser *************************** We are very excited to introduce our new fundraiser online called, "Making Memories Live" albums.
