This is information from a confessed chocolate lover herself. There are benefits to eating chocolate, especially dark chocolate! That is the good news. Now let me tell you why. The magnesium levels in dark chocolate (400 mg for every 100g) and its caffeine, vitamins and Theo bromine are a goldmine of benefits, which have positive effects upon your metabolism. They support many things from growth, to helping to prevent rickets, cardiac, coronary and muscular weakness!
And something else to make you chocolate-holics very happy, the phosphorus and calcium it contains fights dental cavities! So as long as you choose a brand without too much sugar or fat (it all depends on the percentage of cocoa butter), chocolate is a very healthy snack.
It is a shame that the cocoa producing nations, who are often developing countries in the Southern Hemisphere, are the countries that eat the least chocolate because of insufficient household incomes…without mentioning the problems of storing chocolate in the tropics, because chocolate truly melts in temperatures above 32 degrees C or 89.6 degrees F. We are very fortunate indeed, here in America we have access to purchasing chocolate just about anytime we walk into a public store.
Now if weight gain from eating chocolate is your concern, I suggest just what nutritionists have been telling us for some time now, eat more bright colored fruits and veggies and walk daily for at least 30 minutes. If this doesn't do the trick, see your doctor for help, but you don't have to give up your chocolate, it has benefits too!
I am reminded of a quote that goes like this:
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW…what a ride!"

For me that would include eating chocolate now and then! So, while answering your desire for that one last piece of chocolate, remember you can reap benefits too, but always choose the dark chocolate; it is best for your health! |
