Energize yourself during these short dog days of winter, they won’t last long! The days following the holiday season can be depressing. Whatever you do, don’t avoid exercising. It will cause lethargy and bad moods.  It is critical we maintain our high energy and lower our tension during these bleak days. Dr Robert Thayer, PhD who deals with related issues, researched the benefits to being productive, comparing walking versus eating a candy bar. Eating candy gives you an immediate rise in energy, but it wears off within an hour. Folks even had less energy then before they ate the candy bar and more tension! The walkers after one hour reported a substantial rise in energy and continued to feel more energetic for the next hour as well. That 10minute walk also gave them a cheerful outlook and clearer thinking! An added benefit of a daily walk is the absorption of invigorating sunshine. So, get your dog and take it for a 10-15 minute walk each day, and see if you don’t make a more loving Valentine!

Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Many of you have ask to let you know if there is a way to honor our wounded military returning from Iraq, so I am sending along this request. The number one request at the hospital is phone cards! The government does not pay

long distance phone charges and wounded soldiers are rationing their calls home. They need an “endless” supply of these cards. Any amount is greatly appreciated by the soldiers. Many of the discount warehouse stores such as Walmart, have phone cards. Send to: Medical Family Assistance Center, Walter Reed Hospital Center, 6900 Georgia Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20307.
