Your Voice of Choice As You Age

Bodies in Motion, Stay in Motion

Keep that body young, alive and fully functioning!  I attended a Health Seminar this past weekend and I want to briefly share what I learned. There are five health tips for long- life according to Alice Baland’s Life Solutions.

1)       Get 6-8 hours sleep a night.

2)       Take a 15-30 minute nap daily before 3pm.

3)       To prevent insomnia, drink no caffeine after 12 noon and make sure you are getting plenty of magnesium and calcium and water.

4)       Do whatever it takes to reduce your stress.

5)       Exercise by walking, bicycle riding or swimming daily for 15-30 minutes.

Senior Watchdog Reports

Medicare will be increased 17.5% but, not if Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MD) has her say! “The latest increase is outrageous, because it is being foisted on seniors under the terms of the 2003 Medicare Bill to help pay directly for subsidies to HMOs, even though most seniors are not in HMOs. If we permit a 17.5% increase to take effect, Medicare premiums will have climbed 56 % in the last 4 years, an unacceptable increase that runs completely counter to our efforts to provide affordable health care for seniors,” said Senator Stabenow. She continued, “ It’s outrageous that seniors should be socked with a 17% increase that makes a mockery of those whose effort try to save a little on healthcare.”

The Spotlight is on You!

Mature beauty reigned as the room crackled with excitement honoring Wanda Madge Jones, the new Ms. Senior Texas America 2004 at her “Coronation Tea” graciously given at the Edgemere Retirement Home in Dallas on September 17, 2004. Emcee of the event was Mary Frances Hansen, Ms Texas Senior America 1997. Beth Pirtle, Ms. Texas Senior America 2003, crowned Wanda royally.  Wanda Madge Jones has been described as a “supermodel with style.” Wanda is achievement personified, someone with something more then beauty on the surface, a distinguished and accomplished senior woman. Still believing the primes that “age is just a number,” Wanda is going about her life quietly setting an example for all senior women to follow. As her inner and outer beauty sets the stage for “The Age of Elegance” on that special day at Edgemere, there wasn’t a guest in the ballroom who doubted for one moment, that this stunning supermodel with the glowing smile was the right choice for the title of Ms. Texas Senior America 2004!
