Dee Taylor Nominated Second Time for the
2004 Texas Women's Hall of Fame

Category in 2002 - Arts
Category in 2004 - Public Service

(I think the lady accurately described Dee! ---Editor)

The author of the 2004 letter is Mrs. Pamalee Canterbury of Coppell, TX. She wrote:

Dee Taylor is a woman with passion, foresight, high-energy, dedication and unimaginable creativity, which she brings to her advocacy and media work as an Executive Producer, writer and host for Texans in "prime life" through her Award winning television and radio broadcasts, and also with contributions of monthly writings for senior publications and newspapers addressing aging issues that concern graying Texans. At its very core, Dee's unending efforts are a powerful information hub with a dynamic crossroads of community outreach and communications. She encourages her audiences to face aging issues squarely, make the necessary choices, take the necessary actions and move on! Dee Taylor is making an impelling impact daily on the graying community in Texas by utilizing her multi-media talents to harness the tremendous power of "mass media" for all maturing Texans 50+.

Dee is innovative in her programming and her writings. For example, educating family caregivers for the elderly of their options, and how to care for themselves as caregivers. Family caregivers tend to be a hidden population. Often failing to self-identify, over burdened and juggling multiple responsibilities to employers and other family members, and they may be difficult to reach and serve!

For seven years, Dee has partnered with aging professionals and service providers via community outreach. She is highly visible and respected in Dallas and surrounding communities, and has repeatedly offered her assistance in promoting new programs of interest to older adults, their families and caregivers. In doing so, she has helped to reach a broader audience, and at the same time reaching her target audience to inform and educate them about their options and available resources.

Dee's professionalism is above reproach. She is comfortable behind a microphone and a camera. She puts her guests at ease as she conducts thoughtful, well-prepared interviews with a wide variety of carefully chosen experts on various subjects while dealing with aging issues many people chose to ignore! Although in 1997, Media was a new career for Dee, her past executive experience, her positive attitude, curiosity and good humor makes the sometimes difficult subjects she discusses or reports on, much more accessible and palatable to her loyal audiences.

Dee is a tireless advocate for senior's concerns and serves on many Advisory Boards for Aging Texans; i.e., Advisory Council for the North Central Texas Area on Aging; Cooper Clinic Aging Research Community Advisory Board; Aging Texas Well Community Planning board; Richland College's Emeritus Senior Program Advisory Board; City of Plano, Texas Senior Advisory Board.

Voted on by her peers in the industry, Dee has been recognized for her talent and production abilities with National Awards for her video, audio and print. She has also received community, State and National recognition. (See Award info enclosure)

Dee spends much more time behind the camera than in front of it! She dedicates countless hours to raising funds necessary to produce her television and radio programs. She is a one-person band for her mission, and has developed her own infrastructure through partnerships with Time Warner Cable, KAAM LEGENDS and THE WORD 100.7 fm Radio and Community Outreach motivating over 2000 volunteers since her first program in 1997.

Dee Taylor is a role model for successful aging. What Dee has done in seven short years, and how she has done it, could easily serve as a model for others! Dee is on a mission with a wonderful goal to impact those advancing in years in Texas!

I wholeheartedly recommend recognition for this awe inspiring woman, Dee Taylor, who is self- motivated by a vision to make a difference in the lives of her audience of 10 million. From Dallas to Austin to Abilene and Tyler, Texas and every small town in-between, she is utilizing "mass communication" to address aging Texans, as never before even thought of.
