A TRIBUTE TO YOUNG LOVE

By Dee Taylor
(Published in 2005)

I REMEMBER… The handsome young man who captured my heart when I was just
eighteen, still fresh as an unpicked flower!

I REMEMBER… The twinkle in his eyes when he smiled down at me and,
The sweet promises he made on our New Year's wedding day!

I REMEMBER… Each time he entered the room,
he could make my heart skip a beat…
     even after years of marriage!

I REMEMBER… As he would take me in his strong arms,
Our feet were as one in perfect rhythm as he whirled me across the floor.
I could have danced all night and still danced some more!

I REMEMBER… Our intense love for each other. And when in our 20's,
Our romantic love brought forth three beautiful reddish-blonde-haired baby girls
and one handsome toe-headed baby boy!

I REMEMBER… The roller coaster ride of my young life began,
as I fought With all my might,
to hold tight to a man whose spirit was struggling to be free!

I REMEMBER… 25 years later, my youth fleeting,
My breasts no longer satisfied his needs,
and he asked for his liberty!

I REMEMBER… How I watched hopelessly as the ride was over,
Seeing dreams once promised never to be fulfilled!

I REMEMBERED…. and I paused and I thought...

FOREVER I WILL REMEMBER… Now that he is truly free, and
As I look into the eyes of my children,
perhaps you too can see and share with me,
Our young love will always be,
as long as I have you and you have me!

I WILL REMEMBER… and I hope you will remember too!

A Tribute To Young Love

I wrote this poem out of the pain I felt in my heart for my children in memory of my ex-husband, who was murdered in 2003. Written out of my own anguish of how to help them, I wanted them to know that even though their dad and I had been divorced since 1984, they were conceived out of a young love that would always be alive and be remembered as I looked at them.

In memory of Danny Dale Sorrels,
Born: February 4, 1931,
Died: February 25, 2003.

Sabrina Sue, Danice Jean, Danny Dale II, and Selina Louise's father.

Dee Taylor is producer, writer and host of senior media for television and radio in Dallas, Texas. She speaks publicly on senior issues and writes for senior publications and the DFW Community Newspapers with her own column. She started writing when her children began to grow up. She has written and self-published two books and is presently doing research on third book.
